History
Many are using data and assessment to inform decision making through data analytics, but it takes more than a colorful graph, a survey, or a regression to provide the deep insights needed to understand the complex systems that contribute to the data patterns. I am a senior research, predictive modeling, and data analytics professional with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Measurement, Evaluation, and Assessment from University of Connecticut, background as a data strategist for an urban school district, and teacher with experience in managing staff, projects, and client relationships in nonprofit and for profit environments. Because of my background as a mathematician and as both a quantitative and qualitative educational researcher, I understand how people learn. Laser focused research and assessment strategies can help spotlight ways to improve learning. I am the person you need to blend this unique skill set in a collaborative, problem solving environment to support teachers and administrators solve the data puzzle, uncover the trends, and identify solutions to improve schools.

Principal Consultant
Janice Kooken, Ph.D.
My background is broad, with experiences in the corporate, educational and non-profit fields, yet I started with modest roots. I was raised in an economically depressed area and I had very few opportunities as a young person, yet now I have worked with many different people including CEO’s, programmers in India, actuaries, and students of all ages. I have seen how flaws in foundational steps in projects – or in teaching – can cause major disruptions in execution of a project or in a student’s learning. I have also worked in many environments including insurance, marketing research, and education. In fact, I started my career programming in SAS on a mainframe working with millions of insurance claim records. These real life experiences allow me to connect theories and techniques with understanding of problems in many unique ways. In addition, my background with a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Mathematics provide great critical thinking and quantitative reasoning skills. But my strongest trait is my creative problem solving. In many cases, my ideas have driven projects to success where they were stalled and helped students to succeed where they previously were failing.
